Questions
Frequently asked questions
Including the ones most enquiry services would rather not answer in writing.
The service
Are you plasterers?
No. We are an enquiry and quote-matching service. We collect the details of your job and pass them to independent plastering businesses that cover your area. They do the work, set their own prices and carry their own insurance. That is why you will not see "our team" or "our guarantee" anywhere on this site.
Does it cost me anything?
No. Not to submit an enquiry, not to receive contact from a contractor, and not at any later point. Plastering businesses pay to receive matched enquiries — that is the commercial model, and you should know it before you fill anything in.
Am I obliged to appoint anyone?
No. Sending an enquiry books nothing and commits you to nothing. You can speak to whoever gets in touch and decide not to proceed, or withdraw the enquiry entirely by replying to your confirmation email.
How many businesses will contact me?
Up to 3, and never more. This is a deliberate cap. Services that sell one enquiry to eight contractors produce eight phone calls and a homeowner who stops answering, which serves nobody.
How quickly will someone get in touch?
We will not publish a time we have not measured. You get an automatic acknowledgement with a reference within seconds of submitting. How fast a contractor then calls depends on them, and once we have enough data to state a genuine median we will publish it with the date attached.
What if nobody contacts me?
Tell us, by replying to your confirmation email. We follow up on enquiries anyway to ask exactly this, and contractors who repeatedly ignore accepted enquiries are removed from the list. That feedback is the only thing that keeps the list worth anything.
Your job
Can a plastering job be quoted from photos?
Some smaller, straightforward jobs can get a useful initial price from good photographs and measurements. Larger areas, uncertain backgrounds, damp, blown plaster, external rendering and period-property work usually need a site visit before anyone can give a dependable final quotation. We will tell you which yours is rather than pretending otherwise.
What photos should I send?
A wide view of the whole room or elevation, a close-up of the problem, and one more showing access and scale. For rendering, photograph every elevation from as far back as you can get. Three good photos beat six rushed ones.
Do I need to know the measurements?
No. Add them if you have them, but the form is designed to be completed without square-metre calculations. A photo and a postcode are more useful than a number you are unsure about.
I do not know what service I need. What do I pick?
Choose "I'm not sure" and send a wide photo, a close-up and a sentence describing the problem. The job gets categorised properly after it arrives. That option exists precisely so nobody bounces off the form at step two.
Can I send photos later?
Yes. Reply to your confirmation email with them attached, quoting your reference. Photos sent afterwards are just as useful.
Do you cover my postcode?
Enter it in the form and it tells you honestly — inside the usual area, on the edge, or outside it. All three are accepted; we just say which. What it will not do is show a fabricated "3 plasterers available in your area" message.
Safety and older properties
My ceiling has a textured coating. What should I do?
Leave it completely alone and photograph it as it is. Coatings applied before 2000 may contain asbestos and you cannot tell by looking. Do not scrape, sand, drill or break the surface, including to take a better photo. Our guide on textured ceilings covers the options.
There is damp on the wall. Will plastering fix it?
No. Plastering does not fix the source of a leak or a damp problem — it covers it up for a season and then fails, usually with salt staining coming back through the new finish. The cause needs finding and resolving first.
My property is listed. Does that matter?
It can matter a great deal. Work affecting the character or historic fabric of a listed building may require listed building consent, and obtaining it is the owner's responsibility. Shropshire Council's conservation team is the right first call. Tell us in the enquiry and it affects who it goes to.
Is my ceiling safe if it is sagging?
Treat a sagging ceiling as urgent, particularly if water has been involved — saturated plasterboard is heavy. Keep people out from underneath it and get it looked at promptly rather than waiting to collect quotes.
Your details
Who receives my details?
We use them to handle the enquiry and, where there is a sensible match, share them with up to 3 independent plastering businesses selected for the job type and area. That is the whole of it. We do not sell your details to anyone outside that process.
Will I be added to a marketing list?
Not unless you tick the separate, unticked box asking for it. Asking for a quote is not consent to be marketed at, and we do not treat it as if it were. You can withdraw that consent at any time.
Where do my photos go?
To private storage with no public URL. They cannot be browsed or guessed at. Links sent to a matched contractor are individually signed and expire. Photos are never published on this site without asking you first.
Do you ask for my full address?
Not in the form. We ask for the job postcode, which is what is needed to check coverage and route the enquiry. A contractor will need the full address once a visit is being arranged, and that is your call to give them directly.
How do I get my enquiry deleted?
Reply to your confirmation email, or email privacy@shropshireplasterquotes.co.uk, quoting your reference. We delete the enquiry record and the photos, and tell any business it has already reached. Full detail is in the Privacy Notice.
Do you track me?
Only if you accept analytics in the cookie banner, and nothing is loaded before you choose. Even then, we never send names, phone numbers, email addresses or full postcodes into analytics — only the postcode district, the service and the page.
